Choosing the Right Bra Size

How important is it to find the right bra size? Think about this: how do you want to look in your sweaters and cute tops?  What are the words you would like applied to your breasts? Surely you would rather skip words like saggy or baggy, right? If you want to be perky and firm, then you need the right bra. Also, keep in mind that your bra is a foundation on which you build the rest of your outfit. If your bra is too small, you will end up with lumps and bulges that look like you have more than two breasts. On the other hand, if your bra is too large, you will have gaps and pockets and your breasts may well slump down to meet your belly. Oh my what a pretty mental picture that paints, right?

Your first step to choosing the right bra size is to understand a few things about bra sizes and your breasts. Let’s deal with the breasts, first, shall we, girls? No matter what you call them, hooters, the girls, the twins, your boobies (what, are you ten?) or anything else, they are very unique. Not everyone has symmetrical breasts, in fact; it is common for one to be as much as a full size different than the other. Bra sizes can change with weight gain or loss, with age (damned gravity) and during other times of hormonal upheaval. Think of this guideline, if you have changed jeans size, you have likely also changed bra sizes.

At least once in your life, you should be measured by a professional. Most department stores and some other smaller stores will do this for free in their lingerie department. While you can measure yourself, it is far better to have someone else do it. If there is a chance that you will bop your hubby in the snout for comments made during the process, then have someone else do it. Having a professional measure you for the right bra size makes sure that it is accurate without judgment.

Keep in mind that bra sizes are not universal. One brand’s size 36 DD is another brand’s 34D. If you know your bra size in one brand, you do not always know your bra size in another’s.

Okay, ladies, let me tell you something: this is not a problem that only you are dealing with. Finding the right bra size is a universal problem. Take me for instance: I am one very difficult fit. I have large breasts but fairly narrow chest and no shoulders to speak of. I cannot simply buy a bra and be done with it although I will admit that I do so on a frequent basis. I actually do need to special order so that I have the right bra size. There, feel better?
