The average size bra cup is a C with the average band size being 44. For women who are in need of a larger size however, the options are thankfully becoming more plentiful. There are several things that you should keep in mind when looking for the right DD bra however, especially since it may not be as simple as breezing into the local retail store and grabbing one off of the rack.
Make Sure You Know the Right Size
In most retail stores, the space for lingerie is fairly limited so they tend to stock only the most popular sizes meaning that women who are smaller or larger than the average will not find the bra that they need. Before you rush off to the specialty lingerie shop or start ordering bras online though, you need to make sure that you are going to get the right size. While the exact statistics vary, it is estimated that as many as 85% of women are currently wearing the wrong sized bra. If you think you need a DD bra, you should be professionally measured before buying yet another of the wrong size.
Know the Features to Look for
Once you get past the size of a B cup, you may need to have additional comfort measures including fuller cups and wider straps. If you have problems with shoulder pain, you should look for better straps including the great ones that have gel cushioning. In addition to these straps, make sure that your elastic is fully covered. Underwires can be painful, so always make sure that they are covered and fully secured as well. Cheaper bras do not cover their underwire as securely as they need to be. (Ladies, if you have ever been jabbed by an errant underwire, you know exactly what I mean.)
Learn the Proper Care
Because buying DD bras is a little more time consuming and probably a little more expensive than buying other sizes, it is very important to make sure that you are caring for them properly. Hand washing with a mild soap and then thoroughly rinsing is recommended as is laying the bra flat to dry. If you have ever pulled a misshapen bra out of the dryer or worse, had to work an underwire out of the dryer vents then you know how bad it is to put your bra in the dryer.
